The Health eCard Unit is positioned in a convenient place, preferably near the Reception Desk in the Practice. The Unit consists of two small boxes – one that controls the security and encryption of patient data and protects the Practice system from potential damage - and a second, smaller box that is patient-facing.
NEW: If you are using Emis LV, PCS or Web or iSoft Synergy, the Health eCard software is now even more tightly integrated with your system. Apart from speeding up the process, this also means that you only need the smaller of the two boxes, which is used by the patient to update his card.
When the patient receives his or her Health eCard for the first time, the patient selects a secure pass-phrase that only he or she knows and only then does the Health eCard become ‘live’. The patient then brings their Health eCard to the Practice, and at this first stage only, the Practice staff are required to fully identify the patient before allowing the first download of the medical record. Depending on the number of scanned attachments this download process will take between 25-90 seconds.
After each GP consultation, a patient inserts his Health eCard into the small patient unit and his latest consultation data is downloaded within a few seconds, keeping his record fully updated. Time required by you – zero.
